You have at least one torrent in your client that’s been deleted from our system

September 25, 2007

Recently, someone asked about why their inbox at a private tracker has been filling up with this message:

“You have at least one torrent in your client that’s been deleted from our system.
Right now it keeps announcing uselessly to the tracker.
Please stop or remove all torrents that don’t exist on our site any more.
You will get this message once for every 100 announces you make for nonexistent torrents.”

Well, lately the same has been happening to me… more than a few times.

What is happening is that something you downloaded from that tracker has been deleted for one reason or another.. usually it is a duplicate of something someone else uploaded a day or two earlier. Sometimes it is because of quality reasons or the torrent is in violation of rules.

Here is what to do. You have to find out which torrent has been deleted, and then delete it (or just stop it from seeding) from our TorrentFlux Seedbox. To find out what torrent has been deleted in TorrentFlux, click the name of the torrent or the icon on the right that looks like a hand pointing at an index card. A window will pop up showing all the details of that torrent. Click Log. This will show you the history of the torrent up till now.

If you scroll to the bottom of the torrent and it says something like:

[2007/09/25 - 10:23:25] tornado up and running.

then you are good to go, that torrent is running fine. If however you scroll to the bottom of the log it may say something like this over and over:

[2007/09/21 - 06:05:24] error: rejected by tracker - torrent not registered with this tracker (unauthorized)

then you know this torrent has been deleted from that tracker (or another tracker) and you should stop the torrent from running. Delete all the messages in your inbox and you shouldn’t get any more.

Note that it is possible for two or three torrents to be deleted from the tracker and that just getting the first one taken care of will not stop the messages. You have to find them all.

It seems to me that there should be a faster way to find these in TorrentFlux, but I have not found it yet. Let me know if you do.

Have fun.
